To Him Who Sits on the Throne

In a world that acknowledges nothing as ultimate, believers continue to affirm that the crucified Jesus of Nazareth has been raised from the dead by the power of God. He has been given a name above all names, authority above all angels, principalities and powers, and headship over the Church. In all things God has determined and decreed that Christ be given the preeminence, and we await his appearing when he will be exalted as head over all. The Father has placed all things under his feet, and Christ will reign as Lord forever. In this final celebration during the Season after Pentecost, we affirm and acknowledge Jesus of Nazareth as both Lord and Christ.

How to Keep Awake for His Return

According to apostolic testimony, when all seems bright and beautiful to the world, then sudden destruction is destined for its system; none will escape. The Lord God of the prophets has revealed the truth through his apostles that Jesus of Nazareth will return in power to establish a Kingdom that will never end or be turned over to another. We must not sleep for we are not children of the darkness, and we must not drowse, for we are children of the day. As we conclude this Church Year season, how significant it is for us to be reminded that we must not sleep as others do, but rather, we must stay awake, be sober, and eagerly await the coming of Christ. Keep awake, and be patient for the coming of the Lord.

The Final Reunion

The end of the struggle, the conclusion of the battle, the longing we have for victory is not wealth, or abundance, or prosperity, or blessing. These things are well and good, and intrinsic to the blessed hope we have in the Father’s promise for eternal life. As wonderful as these are, the real treasure of our hope the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ together with all the saints. Death and separation cannot possibly have the last word with us; we belong to Christ, and we await his coming that will gather his own unto himself, and we with him. To be together with all the saints in the presence of our Master forever–this is the reunion we seek and the hope we cling to.

The Conclusion of Revelation

The theme of the book of Revelation is the soon coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. As is reflected in a number of translation, the Greek term for 'soon' may be translated either as “soon” or “quickly,' and without question both are true. Although Jesus' return is always seen from a future vantage point, there is no question that it will in fact come upon us suddenly or quickly. Let us, at the end of this Season after Pentecost, believe and hold to the prophecy of this book, neither neglecting it as has been the history of the Church, or using it as grist for extremism to grind, as many expositors have done historically. Jesus is coming. Let us all prepare, and make him room!

The Consumation

We’re going to a place where we will dwell in the presence of God and his Christ, and will never know sorrow, fear, or pain again. The blessed hope of Christ’s return is the yearning of our hearts, the longing of our souls. The intimacy and connection that was so viciously broken and forfeited in the Garden will wondrously be restored in the holy city, the New Jerusalem. As the hope of the saints throughout all time, our desire has always been to be where he is, to live in his presence, to dwell in our new home. Truly, for those who believe, there’s no place, truly no place, like home!

The only reason any human being escapes the sure and terrifying judgment of God is the wideness of his mercy, the same lovingkindness that our Father demonstrated by the sacrifice of his Son, Jesus, on the Cross. Only those whose names are written in the Book of Life will escape the terrifying prospect of eternal separation from him Who is all good and just. The Two Multitudes

Those who endure to the end will be saved, vindicated, exalted, and glorified, even as their Lord endured the cross and was exalted by the Father. Let us seek our better country, and be assured that God through Christ’s resurrection has built us a city, a new homeland where we will live together with him forever. This is our heritage and hope.

He Is Not Here: Christ Has Risen!

This Easter celebration we stand with the women at the tomb, with astonishment and joy, at the word of the angel and the witness of the empty tomb. The same Jesus who was betrayed, maligned, unjustly tried, and brutally crucified is now alive. This same Jesus is Lord and Christ, and is no longer in the tomb. Having destroyed death and defeated our foes through Calvary’s Cross, he now dispenses forgiveness, hope, and life as the risen Lord of all. We unequivocally confess that Jesus is Lord, and that God the Father has raised him from the dead. He is the heir of all things, and the firstfruits of all who have fallen asleep. The Humiliation of the Son

On this Palm Sunday, we view the Nazarene with awe and wonder: as Son of God, equal with God in essence and glory, he empties himself, takes on the form of a servant, and is made in our likeness. As a human being, in contrast to Adam’s kin, he humbles himself and becomes obedient to death, even to the cross. This lowly king, Jesus of Nazareth, enters Jerusalem to die–to bear our sins, to defeat the devil and the curse, and to make creation whole again. He will reign victoriously, but not until after he undergoes and endures the humiliation of the Cross. This week, let us share and enter into his lowliness that we might share in his exaltation.

As he who conquered sin and the devil as Victor and Lord, he is able to secure us as we obey God during our time of exile. Gaining Audience through the Son

During the Season of Epiphany, we affirm Jesus’ unique and special relationship to the Father. He obeyed the Father with unconditional obedience, and is himself the beloved Son of the Father, in whom the Father delights, his Darling and Desire. During the Season of Advent, we celebrate the arrival of the Word made flesh, the Lamb of God who appears in the world. He is called Jesus, the salvation and help of the Lord, the one who would redeem humankind from their sins. He is called Immanuel, “God with us,” the One alone who reveals to humankind the glory of the Father in human form. Jesus, the Babe of Bethlehem is both Savior and Radiance of the Father’s glory, our supreme delight and all sufficient source of salvation, for this age and the one to come.

During the Season of Advent, we affirm the surety of God’s covenant promise— the same Messiah who was anticipated and longed for the first time, came as God said. Awaiting the Royal Son

During the Season of Advent, we remember the announcement of the prophetic promise, that the Messiah will come and reign with the justice and righteousness of God as Royal Son. He alone can accomplish this rule, and he alone can through his shed blood make us fit to enter the coming glorious refreshed earth and renewed humanity, with he himself as its Sovereign and Lord. Let us look to him alone as our source and salvation, the only One worthy to rule in God’s stead over his redeemed humanity.

The prophetic testimony integrates perfectly with the apostolic witness: the Messiah will one day reign and rule in righteousness, bringing salvation and security to the people of God. All will be accomplished through the grace of the our God, the LORD, our righteousness. We know from history and by faith that Jesus of Nazareth is the Man of God's own choosing, the Messiah anointed as King who will rule forever in a new heavens and earth. The King is our Lord and Savior, and soon and very soon we will see him face to face. Let us live each day confident that we will see the One who singlehandedly brought us life through his death and the Cross. He alone reigns as Victor, and he alone will rule as King.

Never underestimate the power of your own fullness, depth, and refreshment in Christ Jesus. Philemon’s life was rich in him, and as a result of his own depth and fullness, God used him to be a refreshment to the hearts of those around him. Only those who have been touched can touch others, only those who are burning can provide warmth, and only those whose hearts are comforted can be a comfort to others. Let the Lord Jesus touch you, and then, through you, he can make you a channel of blessing to others.

Fulfill Your Ministry

In a world that will constantly tempt us to wander, with a flesh that wars against our souls, and with a mortal enemy seeking to destroy us, we are called by Christ to finish the race. He has granted to us the privilege to represent his interests, to be fellow workers of the Kingdom, and to suffer and serve the church of Jesus. Every man and woman of God will be tempted to turn and run, to lay down their sword, to quit the race. Let us remember those valiant warriors who, in the face of struggle and opposition, stood strong for Christ and his Gospel, and won the reward for those who persevere to the end. Only Christ can see us through to the end.

Fleshing Out the Christ Life in Life

Because we have died to sin and the world, we are now called to renounce the ways of our pagan immorality: all forms of sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness we repudiate. Joined to Christ now through faith, we put away all things which obscure the light of our life in Christ: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscenity. Instead, we speak the truth in love, fleshing out the Christ life in our families, on our jobs, and our dealings with those who do not know Christ. As God’s own children, we imitate our Lord putting off the old and putting on the new, living in peace and thankfulness. For us, Christ is all and in all. Let out lives reveal who we truly are and what we truly believe!

Look at the Things You Can't See

Through faith in Christ, we have died with Christ and been raised with him to walk in new life. Since our life is hidden with Christ in God, we ought to seek the things above, setting our mind on the things in heaven, not on the things on earth. These “things” are unseen, but they are real, eternal, permanent, secure. Do not become distracted with worldliness by focusing on the triviality and immorality of the world. Concentrate your attention and affection on Christ himself, who alone is our highest good and truest treasure. When Christ appears, who is our life, we will appear with him in glory.

Workin' on a Building: Be Rooted in Christ

In a world of self-made religion and self-help craziness, let us be careful to stay rooted in Christ. Through faith in his Cross, we have been baptized in him, having died with him, been buried with him, and now are joined with him in new life through his resurrection. He as Christus Victor has overcome our sin debt, canceled out the effect of our trespasses, forgiven all our sins, and conquered our foes. Only in him do we find strength as our Head to grow to spiritual maturity, and only through his power do we find the victory over evil and its effects in our lives. Do not be taken captive through philosophy, ritual, or the latest self-help craze. Christ Jesus is sufficient for all needs regarding the will and purpose of God.

Paul's Mission and His Pastoral Concern

The mission of the apostles was to so proclaim Christ in all his fullness and beauty that everyone would be warned, taught, and grounded in him as the source of both life and salvation. The simplicity of this burden is captured in their pastoral concern: our single desire in ministry is to keep watch over the souls of those under our care that they may remain stable and steadfast in the faith of Christ. Only in him is wisdom, and only in him is life.

No confession is more foundational in Christian theology than the lordship of Jesus Christ–he is Lord of all, to the glory of God, the Father. His role as ransom and redeeming sacrifice allows him to reconcile all things to himself through his blood on the Cross. The Absolute Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ

In connection to all things regarding the revelation of God to humankind and the redemption accomplished for our salvation, Christ Jesus is supreme and sufficient. In him, all the fullness of God dwells, all the redemption of God is complete, and all the hopes of the saints are placed. He is supreme; he alone is sufficient for all.
