Greetings to all my brothers and sisters.

So, I wanted to start a thread where we could post great and innovative ideas from students' Ministry Projects.

I was particularly moved by two students' collaboration on a Ministry Project and wanted to share it with others. Our class has just completed the Old Testament Witness to Christ and His Kingdom. It was a great class that battled trying to understand the how's, what's, and why's of Typology. It was a tremendous 8 weeks. We just finished up at Arby's talking about what we learned and how we did our Ministry Projects.

Our class did a great job on their Projects. One of our church plants had a TUMI Sunday, and two of our students presented to the congregation...absolutely killed it. The word on the street is that one sounded as a seasoned teacher, and the other a skilled preacher. High praise for my fam.

Also, a married couple taking the class collaborated on their Project. They wrote a series of letters to one of their family members. These letters dealt with issues and lessons that we learned in class. And so, they used the principle of progressive revelation to write their series. In other words, they progressively revealed what they learned through this series of letters. But what they were progressively revealing was the promise and fulfillment motif, and it all culminated in the life, death, resurrection, ascension of Jesus Christ. This was not just to fulfill the responsibilities of the Ministry Project. One of the people they were writing to is sorting through the questions of what they believe. This Project was truly a whole-hearted attempt to combine knowledge and creativity to bring glory to the Lord, and hopefully to be used by God to bring someone closer to the knowledge of the love of Christ.

Be encouraged brothers and sisters, the Lord has some absolutely talented warriors in this city, fighting for His name, His glory, His fame. What an honor to sit among them and be inspired by their hopes, their talents, their gifts. Praise to the King!

Hey Jason,

Thanks for the good report! I am teaching OT Witness right now, and my students are really enjoying it. I think it is one of my favorite ones too. They have not turned in their ministry projects yet, but last night they were coming up with some interesting parallels between OT Characters and Christ (Lesson 3). For example, Joseph in prison with two condemned men, one released and one killed... similar to Christ on the cross with two thieves, one condemned and one set free (eternally). I agree that the Holy Spirit is raising up gifted and mighty workers and warriors for the tasks he desires to accomplish.

Thanks for sharing.

Hank

Oh man, that's a cool reference! I love the type with Joseph and the two fellow prisoners. Sweet.

Doing Justice & Loving Mercy
Ministry Project

Because the nature of this class is practical and action-oriented, you will be doing a ministry project that reflects this. You will choose one area of social justice about which you are passionate and be actively involved in a project which:

• Serves as an access point through which to build relationships in the community
• Allows you to address a felt need in the community
• Gives you a venue through which to share some of the things you learned in this class
• Raises awareness in the local community about the social justice issue

Some examples of projects that would work are (and you can totally steal these):

• A movie screening of a documentary on human trafficking in the local school for parents of students
• An after-school student forum about ways to implement environmental change within the home and school
• Organize or attend a local meeting which addresses ways for undocumented people to gain green cards and citizenship
• Run a letter-writing campaign to city, county, state, or federal representatives highlighting a piece of legislation or issue which you want addressed
• Have a hunger-awareness party and corporately sponsor children in a drought-ridden country
• Join the ONE campaign, recruit 5 friends, and participate in phone calls, letter-writing, or other practical endeavors to support the variety of causes they advocate

This is a project that has the potential to take a long time, so it will be worth more points (50), and there will be more “checkpoints” along the way to ensure you are moving on this ahead of time. The written portion of this project should detail:

• What area of social justice you targeted
• The full description of the project
• The target audience
• The key relationships you built
• The things you shared about what you learned in class
• Your evaluation of the entire project and its results compared with your goals

Please be creative! If you have a wacky idea that you are not sure fits within the parameters of this project, please feel free to pitch it to me!
