This is a test.

I really am testing.

It should be obvious that this is a test.

I'm replying to "Cool" but I'm not entering a title for my post.

Now I'm replying to my reply to "Cool." This time I gave my post a title. The response-linked threading works well in Hybrid mode.

So if I give my post a title, it appears in bold. Is it truncated? Only as much as untitled posts' working titles get truncated, in the response-thread tracking window at the top. That's cool.

Maybe I should encourage discussion participants to avoid giving titles to their posts unless they are changing the topic? Maybe it doesn't matter if we're using Hybrid mode anyway.

Now I've edited this post. Will the date/time of my edit be shown to everyone? I'm not entering a reason for editing.

Ah, it does show a timestamp for my edit! Now I'm editing it again, and this time I'll give a reason...

...Third edit here. So it only shows the most recent edit's timestamp. Can the Admin see the earlier edits, or their timestamps? Just curious-- they might be simply discarded by vBulletin.

The Virtual Classroom forum is a little different than the others. In a typical forum, if you change the topic you should probably start a new thread and create a link to the thread that inspired the new one. In the VC, you get one thread per course. Topics are bound to change in this scenario, so thread titles should be allowed to change.

Using the Quick Reply button (bottom-right corner of each post) rather than the Post Reply button may also be helpful. Give it a try; do quick replies to a couple different messages.

Quick Reply: how do I start a new topic within this thread?

Quick Reply to "I'm replying to 'Cool' but I'm not entering a title for my post"...

Aha, so a new reply-tree can be started without formally beginning a new thread! That's all I needed to see: that new conversations are in fact reflected in the hybrid or threaded views.

This is a test of Quick-Reply's ability to start a new discussion tree.

Now I'm testing a Quick-Reply with the "quote message in reply" option checked. (and where did my standard reply button go??)

Ooo, testing is fun! The new discussion tree grows...
